CSUB Nursing has created a service learning course that allows for nursing students to travel to different countries and offer care and education to patients abroad. These 7-12 day mission trips provide so many benefits to the student allowing them to work together as a team to serve others that are different from themselves. They get the opportunity to learn about different health care systems and see social determinants of health take on new meaning. Each student fundraises to attend and pay for approximately 1/3 of the trip. We try to allow for donations and grants to pick up the other 2/3. Many of our students would not be able to have this opportunity without donation and grant support. So far, 151 students have travelled out of the country with faculty to Mexico, Peru, Costa Rica, and Micronesia. This summer we have another 46 students traveling to either Costa Rica or Zambia in Africa! Won't you consider helping us keep this opportunity alive for our nursing students??
