Bakersfield Community: Identifying and Meeting a Need

CSUB Nursing created a service learning course to help support the need they identified in our community for health resources and patient education. Many of our local residents do not have access to medical services and aren't sure where to start. The CSUB Community Preventive Health Collaborative (CPHC) uses nursing students to find areas in our city that need more resources. These include pop-up health fairs and children's education programs that not only identify problems but also refer patients to the services they need. Students volunteer their Friday nights or Saturdays to help meet the needs of these patients while improving their skills and patient education.
